Jemere Morgan’s journey in music is more than just following in the footsteps of his
legendary family;it’s about carving his own path, infused with the wisdom and talent passed
down through generations. Born into the illustrious Morgan heritage, his musical lineage
traces back to his grandfather, Denroy Morgan, whose iconic hit “I’ll Do Anything For You”
soared atop the Billboard charts in 1981, marking a historic milestone in reggae’s journey
into the mainstream. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Jemere Morgan’s father,
Gramps Morgan, became an internationally renowned reggae artist and a key figure in the
multiple Grammy-winning group, Morgan Heritage.
Growing up immersed in this musical legacy, Jemere Morgan found inspiration not only from
his father but also from a diverse array of artists spanning genres, including Mario, Chris
Brown, Otis Redding, and India Arie. However, it was witnessing his father and the Morgan
Heritage band perform during the Van Warps tour that ignited his passion for music.
Enthralled by their performances, Jemere Morgan realized that music wasn’t just a passion
but his destined path.
What sets Jemere Morgan apart as an artist is his ability to seamlessly blend genres,
infusing reggae with elements of pop, rhythm and blues, and hip hop. This fusion of styles
reflects his eclectic musical influences and his desire to push boundaries creatively. With his
debut single “First Kiss,” available on iTunes, Jemere Morgan embarked on his journey to
establish himself as a solo artist, following in the footsteps of his family’s illustrious legacy.
Touring internationally alongside his father, his late uncle “Peetah Morgan” and the other
members of Morgan Heritage provided Jemere Morgan with invaluable experience and
exposure to diverse audiences across all continents. Opening for his family on their
European tour was a pivotal moment, allowing him to showcase his talents on a global stage
and affirming his place in the musical landscape.
In 2019, Jemere Morgan unveiled his sophomore album, “Self-confidence,” marking a
significant milestone in his musical evolution. A true art of work, produced by Gennaro
Schiano (renowned engineer/producer from Stephen Marley, Lions Den studio & Circle
House), Roy “Gramps” Morgan and Jemere himself, the album hosts a roster of notable
musicians such as multi-award winning saxophonist Sheldon Palmer. The album captures
Jemere Morgan’s growth and introspection as he transitions from adolescence to adulthood.
Through fifteen tracks encompassing social commentary, inspirational messages, and love
compositions, Jemere Morgan imparts his journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
“Self-confidence” isn’t just an album;it’s a testament to overcoming doubts and fears,
embracing individuality, and inspiring others to do the same.
Continuing to expand his artistic horizons, Jemere Morgan has ventured into collaborations
with esteemed artists such as Kabaka Pyramid and Damian Marley. His contributions to
Kabaka Pyramid’s Grammy-winning album “The Calling,” notably the two tracks “Grateful”
and “Energy”, demonstrate his versatility and willingness to transcend genre boundaries.
The latter has just been released as a vibrant remix with Sean Paul. Together with Kabaka
Pyramid, Jemere Morgan explores themes of gratitude and personal boundaries on this
album, showcasing his prowess as a lyricist and performer.
As he continues to navigate the ever-evolving music industry, Jemere Morgan remains
steadfast in his commitment to honoring his family’s legacy while forging his unique identity
