Curtis Millen (NL)
Biography
Curtis Millen is an Irish Soul and Funk singer from the heart of West Belfast who has taken his kinfolk’s natural spirit of showmanship and channeled it to build a reputation for himself as a conductor of energy. Raised at the kitchen tables of his two grandmothers’ homes Curtis found himself exposed to the richness of;Motown, Soul, Rock’n’Roll, and Jazz from as early as he can remember. Dancing and singing along to Little Richard, The Four Tops and Elvis by day then going home to listen to his Father’s CD collection when he got home – Public Enemy, Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers (the stuff you weren’t allowed to listen to in Granny’s house). While some of his friends found themselves in heavy metal during their teens, Curtis turned to listening to rap for his teenage angst. It was along this journey that he discovered the samples he loved in the backgrounds of these songs: this is where he found himself immersed in funk from Stevie Wonder, James Brown, The Gap Band, Zaap & Rogers and a whole lot more. Curtis moved to Rotterdam in 2021 to follow a dream of living a more fulfilling life in music. Safe to say he hasn’t been disappointed with the plethora of opportunities available and talented musicians on display in Rotterdam and the surrounding Randstad area. Having plied his trade performing his favourite soul and funk covers relentlessly for the past few years, Curtis is now ready to take his own set of original songs on the road with influences from the likes of Prince, Tom Jones and Jamiroquai that go between genres but mainly residing in Soul, Funk and Blues. During his time in Rotterdam, Curtis has teamed up with local Producer and Guitarist, Niels Onstenk (artist name Niké Laos) to bring his musical ideas to life. They are now currently in the process of performing Works in Progress shows in the build up to the release of various singles and an EP they’ve been working on. You’re sure not to be disappointed if you happen to catch one of these shows but you’re sure to be disappointed if you don’t, so don’t miss out and get on down for what promises to be an evening of good vibes and soulful music!
